Clevelander Barbara Rosene headed for New York City back in the ’90s to follow her career as a jazz singer specializing in early 20th century pop music, especially from the ’20s and ’30s.
She’s performed with the Woody Allen Jazz Band, the late Les Paul, and Vince Giordano and still tours with the Harry James band. She’s also made seven albums of her own, including her most recent Nice and Naughty, filled with sassy tunes from the ’20s like “Glad Rag Doll,” “Don’t Take That Black Bottom Away,” “Do What You Did Last Night,” and “You’re the Cream in my Coffee.” Her plush, purring voice beautifully captures that era’s sensibility while not sounding frozen in amber.
She’s returning to the area to perform at Nighttown where she’ll be accompanied by the Jackie Warren trio featuring some of the areas’s most accomplished and versatile players: Warren on piano, Peter Dominguez on acoustic bass and Ron Godale on drums. It’s cozy cabaret evening for a cold winter night.
Tickets are $15.
