Swiss jazz pianist Alex Bugnon landed stateside in his late teens when he arrived in Boston to study at the Berklee College of Music.
Now he’s one of that revered institution’s many success stories, although it didn’t happen overnight. He spent some time picking up gigs here and here before finding regular work with touring R&B singers like Patti Austin, Freddie Jackson, and Keith Sweat.
He parlayed that into a recording career of his own which has been going strong since 1989. His stints with R&B acts infuses his music with a flowing melodicism and comfortable groove. And although he recorded for a number of years with new age/smooth jazz label Narada, his music has an energy and drive and solid jazz grounding that keep it from falling into that particular pit of goo.
He’ll be back for his second stint at Nighttown where he sold out his last shows. He’ll again be playing two nights, two shows at night.
Tickets are $3. Student tickets for the late show only are $15.
