The boy from Cleveland has gone on to become a three-time Grammy winning producer, working with greats such as Barbara Streisand, Miles Davis and George Benson.He helped create the modern jazz music industry with his involvement in record companies Blue Thumb Records, Elektra, GRP, Verve Music Group and Impulse! Records.
But even after a major $3 million donation to Cuyahoga Community College and seeing his name on the wall of the Center for Creative Arts, which will be named after him, he retains his humility and sense of humor. When asked how he would describe himself, he says, “A barber from E. 17th & Euclid.” This Cleveland boy got his start in the music business when radio DJs and music industry professionals would come into his PlayhouseSquare barbershop and talk music.
