Much to the community’s dismay, Nature’s Bin finds themselves in a pickle, and closes their retail produce market after 41 years, while maintaining their mission to train the developmentally disabled. Which reminds us to support the people and projects we love, lest they bite the dust. So shut your cake hole and head to the 11th annual 12 Nights of Terror, or eat, drink and be Mary with the Hump Film Festival, both at the Capitol.
You could be the toast of the town by bidding on a statue of the candidate who’s one sandwich short of a picnic. You could enjoy the roots of American music when the magisterial Roger Hoover unleashes his new release at the G.A.R. Hall. Or tip your porkpie hat to Johnny Cash with the Rock Hallers. Or get it for free in the Circle at RootsFest.
Not your cup of tea? New Cleveland music ensemble could curry your favor. The Spooky Pooch Parade might be worth your salt. And piping hot adopted son Ian Hunter certainly rocks Cleveland at 77, still full of piss & vinegar.
Whet your appetite on three Mansfield columns on the upcoming election. Early voting starts today, and we endorse Ted Strickland for US Senate, rather than his red-meat baiting opponent. Remember: you are what you eat. –Thomas Mulready

Sadly, money talks too loudly in politics. In the Ohio U.S. Senate race between Democrat Ted Strickland and Republican Rob Portman, it’s screaming at the top of its lungs.
Strickland led the polls for a year, and then the NRA, U.S. Chamber of Commerce and others swooped in and drowned him in money. Missing from the discussion: Portman’s awful, far-right voting record. Strickland would be a far better representative for ordinary Ohioans.
Singer/songwriter/guitarist Roger Hoover made a mark in the local music scene with his bands the Whiskeyhounds and Magpies and his solo acoustic shows. Now he’s hoping to expand his reach with his new album Pastures.
Hoover talks to CoolCleveland’s John Benson about where he’s hoping the new album takes him. He’ll be marking his release with a show at Peninsula’s G.A.R. Hall. Sat 10/15.
