Dance and big band music combine for “Home for the Holidays, A Big Band Christmas,” which will have two performances at the Stocker Arts Center in Elyria.
Vocalist Kelly Knowlton and band leader/bassist Paul Martin have assembled a star-studded band of jazz musicians from cross the region to join the dancers from Bobby and Brooke Wesner’s Neos Dance Theatre. The Neos dancers — Juliana Freude, Anna Trumbo, Kassandra Lee, Rebekah Mayfield, Ali LeBay and Kaleb Reilly, plus the Neos Youth Performance Ensemble — will not only perform their usual ballet, but also jazz, tap and contemporary dance.
The Wesner’s four daughters will join in singing a set list that includes some more offbeat holiday songs such as “Cool Yule” and “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve,” as well as new arrangements of standard tunes.
“The real heart of the show for me are the beautiful hymns sung during Act 2,” says Brooke Wesner in the show’s press release. “Although this is a show for everyone celebrating the holiday season, this section highlights the meaning of Christmas for me and my family.”
Tickets are $15-$35.
