Blank Canvas Theatre in 78th Street Studios is known for doing strange, boundary-stretching scripts, so it’s no surprise that the plot of their upcoming production One Man, Two Guvnors is a little hard to describe.
The author, Richard Bean, based the story for this 2011 play on a commedia dell’arte-style comedy called The Servant of Two Masters, written in 1746 by Italian author Carlo Goldoni. Bean reset it in Brighton, England with British characters as the out-of-work musician, the gangster, the murders, the loving couple who aren’t who they seem to be. Bean’s version features songs by Grant Olding. Noted local actress/director Anne McEvoy helms the Blank Canvas production.
It runs Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays @ 8pm and Sundays @ 7pm through Saturday September 24. Tickets are $25.
