Ian Hunter needs no introduction to Cleveland audiences. The British rocker first gained international attention in Mott the Hoople in the early ’70s after David Bowie wrote and produced their signature song “All the Young Dudes.” And while anything Bowie attracted a following in Cleveland, his first breakout market in the U.S., Hunter really endeared himself to Clevelanders when he rewrote his tune “London Rocks” as “Cleveland Rocks.” That song, heard at 6 pm Friday on WMMS-FM for years in the station’s heyday, became a local anthem.

Hunter’s continued to maintain his ties with Cleveland over the years, even with the passing of one of his main champions, Cleveland music industry executive Steve Popovich. He’ll be coming back with his current and the Rant Band. They’ve recently released Ian Hunter & the Rant Band Live in the U.K. 2010, which features songs from all eras of Hunter’s long and illustrious career. So you can probably expect to hear your favorites when they play the Beachland Ballroom. Freedy Johnston opens.

Tickets are $32.
