For its sixth year, the Blue Sky Folk Festival, taking place at the East Shore Unitarian Universalist Church in Kirtland, moved its date from the spring to September.
But the format hasn’t changed. It’s still a low-key, family-friendly event, featuring a lineup of both local and visiting musicians in a variety of acoustic genres who perform and host you-can-all-join-in workshops. Detroit’s Matt Watroba hosts and performs as part of a lineup that features Kent folksinger/instrument inventor Hal Walker and friends, local swamp rockers Cats on Holiday, Cleveland singer/songwriter Thor Platter, Kent roots rockers Hey Mavis and Americana trio Low Lily out of Vermont.
And while mom and dad are attending jam sessions and workshops on things like the art of improvising, old-time banjo, building a harp guitar and traditional harmonies, there’s a whole set of interactive sessions for kids. There’ll be food, beer and wine available for purchase so you can stay all day.
Admission is $8 in advance, $10 at the door, under 12 free. And if you bring your instrument to jam, it’s $3 off, so you can see they really encourage participation!
