Dan Savage built his fame/reputation on his long-running column Savage Love, carried by alternative newspapers across the country including Cleveland’s Scene. In it he doles out no-holds-barred advice to people with an array of sexual identities and tastes. He’s parlayed that into a podcast and the It Gets Better Project, aimed at getting LGBTQ+ young people through their adolescent storms relatively intact.
One of his other projects is the HUMP! Film Festival, now in its 18th year and arriving at Cleveland’s Capitol Theatre for one night only this Saturday. For the festival, he curates a variety of “sex-positive” short films which, he says, “are almost all created by people who aren’t porn stars but want to be one just for this festival.” Like his column, they involve people of all genders, sexual orientations, sizes, ages, kinks, fetishes and more: “a unique celebration of creative sexual expression.”
Audiences who attend the screening can vote for their favorite entries in categories such as Best Sex, Best Kink, Best Humor and Best in Show.
