Hip Hop Artists Showcased in Free Concert on Waterloo

Sun 3/5 @ 1-3PM

Dee Jay Doc is a rapper and the founder of the nonprofit Refresh Collective, which uses rap to engage at-risk young people and steer them toward a more productive future, offering them opportunities to record, perform and expand their creative networks. He’s worked  with schools, community centers, hospitals and drug rehab programs, both here and in Cincinnati.

He’s about to release an album called Trust Belt City, on which he tells the story of the work he’s done and is doing. He’s doing a pre-release show at the Cleveland Rocks Shop in the Waterloo Arts District this weekend. He’ll perform with guest artist Zach (note: not the well-known Akron singer/songwriter and peace advocate), who is a rapper, hip hop journalist and Refresh Collective lead teacher.

The opening set will feature Nate Willard, Anti and Milwaukee hip-hop artist/educator Quill The Messenger. The event is free, but it’s a tiny space so RSVP to reserve soon if you don’t want to miss out. Go here.
