This past spring, Akron’s Johnny Clampett and the Walkers aka the Walking Clampetts celebrates their 35th anniversary with a pair of shows at the Beachland Ballroom and Musica in Akron.
Fronted by guitarist Johnny Reagle, the band was one of the earliest in this area digging up retro sounds like rockabilly and surf and giving it a jolt of punk rock spirit. The band hasn’t played consistently over those 35 years and certainly hasn’t been that active recently. But you can always count on its Holiday Stomp coming back to the Tangier in Akron. This year they’ll be joined by an even longer-running band that HAS played fairly consistently throughout its lifespan: Kent’s Number Band, which debuted in 1970.
