Fingerstyle Acoustic Guitarists Gather for Woodchoppers Ball 16 at the Kent Stage

Sat 12/10 @ 8PM

The annual Woodchoppers Ballroom, now in its 16th year, was the brainchild of Cleveland fingerstyle acoustic guitarist Brian Henke. Each year, he brings together a whole bunch of the top players in the genre for a blowout holiday concert, benefiting the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless. The bills usually include a mix of rising performers and seasoned veterans, and that’s true of this one, again taking place at the Kent Stage.

Henke’s always one of the performers, and there are other recurrent players that fans of acoustic guitar enjoy hearing again including Chicago’s Muriel Anderson, Indiana’s Michael Kelsey, Atlanta’s Night Travelers (James McKinney and Niki Portman), and Mark Sganga from New York, all of whom performed last year. Attendees will also hear singer/songwriter/guitarist Helen Avakian from upstate New York, performing with Dave Irwin, a player/teacher with nearly 50 years of experience Rolly Brown, banjo player/guitarist Atom Lax, and versatile, competition-winning Chicago guitarist Jack Wilson.

Tickets are $30 in advance, $34 at the door.
