Yeah, it can be expensive going to the movies, especially with premium ticket prices for 3D movies. But now the Cedar Lee Theatre is offering movie lovers the chance to see classic films in a real theater while munching on theater popcorn with that distinctive “butter-flavored topping” for only $1.

The films chosen for the monthly series will be films the whole family can enjoy, starting this month with The Wizard of Oz in 3D. You all know the classic story of Dorothy from Kansas and her little dog Toto, swept away in a hurricane to the magic, full-color world of Oz before discovering that there’s no place like black-and-white Kansas, even with the economy ravaged by right-wing ideologue governor Sam Brownback.

“We’re excited to offer our $1 Family Films at the historic Cedar Lee Theatre,” says Jonathan Forman, president of Cleveland Cinemas.  “It’s a great way to have families and children visit this historic theatre. Since the Cedar Lee Theatre rarely shows films for younger audiences, it’s likely that this will be the first time many of them have stepped through our doors.” Get them young!

The Wizard of Oz will screen at 11am Sat 9/24 and Sun 9/25. Next month’s film, showing on Sat 10/22 and Sun 11/23, is Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit. On Sat 11/19 and Sun 11/20, The Secret of Nimh is on tap. The year will end with The Polar Express in 3D on Sat 12/17 and Sun 12/18.
