It’s hard to recall a presidential campaign — and an outcome — that has been worse for women. Throughout the entire cycle, one party has loudly vowed to take control of their own bodies away from women and make them chattel to government, while failing to provide any support for the children they want to force them to have. Meanwhile, its standard bearer has consistently demeaned women as valuable only for their looks and sex appeal.

A group of local women are vowing to fight back. They are re-launching the Cleveland chapter of the venerable women’s organization NOW — the National Organization for Women. The group was founded in 1966 and, tragically, it appears the battles won in the last 50 years will have to be refought again.

The initial organizing meeting takes place at Case Western Reserve’s Flora Stone Mather Center for Women. The organizers say the meeting is open to anyone — all ages, genders, races — who supports the group’s goals of full and equal rights and inclusion for women in all aspects of social, political and economic life.
