Dark Wave Dance Cave Takes its February Theme From Depeche Mode’s “Strangelove”

Sat 2/21 @ 9PM-2AM

A lot of fans of wildly popular 80s synth-pop group Depeche mode got a new lease on the life of their fandom when the band toured in 2024 on the back of a new album called Memento Mori. That the band still includes two of its founding members — Martin Gore and David Gahan — was a plus. And songs such as “Just Can’t Get Enough,” “Personal Jesus,” and “People Are People” have never left synth pop playlists.

So when the monthly Dark wave Dance Cave dance party is back at the Winchester Music Tavern for February, the month of Valentine’s Day, it’s taking its theme from Depeche Mode’s 1987 single “Strangelove.” Hosts and DJs Matthew Darkstar and Mimi Dromette will be programming lots of Depeche Mode as well as other synth pop, goth and new wave tracks with a focus on love songs — strange, dark, twisted or otherwise. There’ll be themed cocktails and decorations and what they call a “romantic raffle” at midnight. And Extraordinaire photos will be there will a photo backdrop to take photos to remember the night.
