NE Ohio’s Doug McKean & the Stuntmen Celebrate New Release at the Beachland

Fri 7/12 @ 8PM

How, you might ask, did a northeast Ohio musician like Doug McKean assemble a band such as the Stuntmen, a veritable supergroup of some of the area’s best and busiest musicians?

It didn’t happen overnight. McKean’s been around the block a few times. His first band when he was in his early 20s toured the U.S. and Canada. He backed indie songwriter Tim Easton on a European tour and spent 20 years fronting Cleveland seasonal Pogues tribute band The Boys from the County Hell. He took a ten-year hiatus from performing his own music until he came roaring back with his 2022 release The Second Golden Age of Piracy.

That was his signal to start performing again in person, so he contacted Brent Kirby (aka Cleveland’s busiest musician) and Bobby Latina whom he knew from occasionally sitting in with their band The Jack Fords. They tapped bassist Andy Leach from the New Soft Show to complete the Stuntment lineup. Their bio describes their music as replete with classic influences: “Byrdsy pop, fizzy punk, and Stonesy rock.” As a songwriter, McKean is elated to have a group of musicians around him that match the openness, inquisitiveness, and fearlessness of his songs.

Join them at the Beachland Tavern to celebrate their new release Enduring Freedom. Jenna Fournier’s dreamy-but-driving project Kid Tigrr opens. Get tickets here.
