Dark Wave Dance Cave Celebrates World Goth Day

Fri 5/15 @ 9PM

Who knew there was a World Goth Day? Well, of course, Mimi Dromette and Matthew Darkstar, the DJs and hosts of the monthly Dark Wave Dance Cave events at the Winchester Music Tavern, knew. Every month, they roll out the goth, synthpop, industrial and darkwave music — anything with a gloomy edge — so that black-clad dancers can revel in the darkness.

For this month, they’ll be focusing much of their setlist on goth club classics, taking you back to the days of the Phantasy Nite Club and its goth/industrial DJ club, the Chamber, where the black-haired, black-lipstick crew went to look try to look as depressed possible.

In addition, they’ll have a World Goth Day-themed cake, a gothic photo backdrop, photos by Extraordinaire Photos, and raffle for a goth-appropriate gift package. So dress as if the Chamber was still open: the only warning is doing were boring street clothes. As the only person who once wore a pink sundress to an August concert by The Smiths, where everyone else was in heavy layers of black sweaters and jackets, I’m not sure I have anything appropriate.

It’s an 18+ event. Get more information and advance tickets here. (Tickets are available at the door.) (The actual World Goth Day is May 22, so this is a warm-up for the big event.)
