Last year’s inaugural wearable art fashion show at the Darl Center for the Arts in Slavic Village was a thing of astonishment and beauty. A runway constructed in the downstairs theater of the center featured models in an array of jaw-dropping costumes created from materials such as artificial fingernails to plastic bags. Many of the pieces were designed by friends of the Darl Center’s owner, Darl Schaaff, who collected an army of interesting friends in his 35 years as an Alaska-based events producer. He brought in a group of wooden designs by artist David Walker, which he loaned to Schaaff afterwards to put on display in the building’s art-packed galleries.
The shows sold out last year, so Schaaff is bringing it back and even hoping to make it a regular event. And several Cleveland artists will be included among those whose designs will be on the runway. Walker will be returning for the event, and there will be the opportunity to mingle and tour the galleries before and after the shows. There is also a cash bar.
