Wed 1/14 @ 5-7PM
The Low Power Happy Hour events, hosted by the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park at CVNP’s Happy Days Lodge, are low-key evenings to learn about some aspect of environmental stewardship and meet like-minded people who care about the future of our Earth.
The topic for this month’s event a “Modern Farming and Conservation in CVNP.” As some may be aware, the park encompasses farming homesteads that with long-term leases awarded to people interested in living on them and making them into productive businesses through sustainable growing practices. The program began in 1999; there are currently eight such farms.
Representatives from three of the farms will be there to talk about what goes on at their farms. They include Kyla Werlin from Oxbow Orchard, which raises Icelandic sheep, chickens and turkey, season fruits and vegetables, seedling and flowers, using regenerative practices; Sasha Miller of Purplebrown Farmstead, a food forest that produces apples and other fruits, nuts, herbs, flowers, mushrooms and animal products; and Mark Trapp from Trapp Family Farm, a mixed crop and livestock farm powered by draft horses that sells eggs, produce and meat onsite.
Doors open for networking at 5:30. The program begins at 6, followed by a Q&A at 6:30. From 6:30-7, there’s more opportunity for networking.
