Cleveland Shakespeare Festival Brings Some of the Bard’s Best Scenes to the Music Box

Thu 1/15 @ 7:30PM

The Cleveland Shakespeare Festival has been presenting its distinctive form of theater for 27 seasons now. All its productions, which take place in the summer, are performed outdoors at locations all around town during daylight evening hours, with no sets or extensive props. Because they use no lighting gear, the plays are abridged to conclude before dark. And they’re all free. It’s the perfect introduction to Shakespeare in relaxed and informal settings.

They’re bringing a bit of that vibe to CabaretShakes, taking place at the Music Box Supper Club. There they’ll perform some of the most iconic scenes from plays such has Romeo & Juliet, MacBeth, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, King Lear, Hamlet and The Tempest, among others, giving the audience a taste of his comedies, tragedies, romances and history plays. There’ll even be sword fights! Eight company members will make these scenes sizzle.

“For the past 27 seasons, we’ve only been doing a summer season,” says Cleveland Shakespeare Festival’s new artistic director Rachel Gold. “So, stepping into the role of artistic director, I’m very interested in programming throughout the entire year. I’m excited to partner with a beautiful indoor venue like the Music Box and for our actors to showcase their incredible talent and passion for Shakespeare during what would normally be our off-season.”
