Fri 5/9-Sun 5/25
Heisenberg, written by British playwright Simon Stephens, debuted off Broadway in 2015. Later moving to Broadway and London’s West End. In it, a 42-year-old mother named Georgie and a 75-year-old butcher named Alex meet in a crowded London railroad station where they connect when Georgie is drawn to Alex, and the two set out for New Jersey together in search of Georgie’s son.
The New York Times said the play is a “satisfyingly sentimental, life-affirming mating dance between two people who are so utterly dissimilar that of course they are made for each other. But if you choose to tune into the quieter frequencies, you’ll detect the presence of a probing work that considers the multiplicity of alternatives that could shape our lives at every moment.”
Ensemble Theatre will be presenting the play as its final production of the season, with Lara Mielcarek as Georgie and Jeffrey Grover as Alex. Tom Fulton directs. It runs Fridays and Saturdays @ 7:30 and Sundays @ 2pm, plus Thursday May 22 @ 7:30pm. There’s no performance Sunday May 18 due to John Carroll University graduation. (Ensemble performs at JCU’s Marinello Little Theatre.) On opening night there will be chocolate-covered strawberries!
