Polka Hall of Fame’s Button Box Bash Celebrates Canadian Polk King Walter Ostanek’s 90th Birthday

Sun 4/27 @ 1-6PM

Cleveland polka King Frankie Yankovic died in 1998 at the age of 83. Canadian polka king Walter Ostanek, who, like Yankovic, is a specialist in Slovenian or Cleveland-style polka, is still alive and kicking at the age of 90 (his birthday was April 20).

It’s only fitting that the Euclid-based National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame is hosting a party to celebrate the birthday of the genre’s living elder statesman. That party takes place at the American Croatian Lodge in Eastlake, where they promise that there will be 50 accordionists jamming at the 41st Super Button Box Bash. That will add up to five hours of music for getting out on the dance floor and rocking those polkas and waltzes to music by bands and musicians such as Ron Likovic, Don Wojtila, and the Fairport Jammers, with a big accordion jam as well.

There’ll also be plenty of Slovenian-style food available to fuel guests between dances. Get advance tickets ($12) at the Polka Hall of Fame or get $15 tickets at the door. Those 18 and under are free to encourage the next generation of polkaholics.
