Horizontal Books opened on the busy strip of West 25th in Ohio City just north of the West Side Market in 2008, with a couple of unique twists. One was the horizontal display of the books, making their titles easier to read. The other was the discounted prices that increased with the number of books purchased. The store began to transition its model in 2022 with the additional of a coffeeshop, offering high-quality, small-batch roasts from around the world and a name change to Index Books. The discounted book prices are still in effect, and now you can bring in your used books for coffee or store credit. From humor to politics, music to self-help, they’ve got something for you to peruse over coffee. They’re open every day from 8am-6pm.
