Trumpet player/composer/producer/arranger Jacob Wynne was familiar to music fans in northeast Ohio leading the exuberant percussion-and-horns ensemble Revolution Brass Band for more than a decade starting in 2010. Sadly, he passed away December 9 at the age of just 44. He’s the second member of that ensemble to die far too young, following the death of John Kuegeler in 2011.
That band featured a lineup of a half dozen horn players on various instruments, propelled by a couple of drummer/percussionists. They were a staple at festivals such as Ingenuity, Parade the Circle and the Hessler Street Fair, where their big sound, which blended soul, jazz, funk, Afrobeat and New Orleans-style second line music, got people up on their feet. The band released a self-titled album in 2014.
Wynne, like most of the band members, was a highly trained musician with a degree in jazz performance from Youngtown State’s Dana School of Music. He was named Scene’s best horn player in 2010.
