Foundry Concert Club to Leave Lakewood, Relocate to Old Brooklyn

The space at 11729 Detroit Avenue in Lakewood has been many things over the course of at least five decades (maybe more). In the 70s it was called Hennessey’s and was a west side hangout for music fans who wanted something a bit more straight-ahead rock & roll than what the Phantasy across the street was offering. It went disco, sort of, when it a was the Lime Spider, and reverted to Hennessey’s at least once. Very briefly in the 2000s it was an upscale pub run by people who’d never run a restaurant before (hence the “briefly”).

In recent years it’s been doing business as The Foundry Concert Club, offering an eclectic mix of local and touring bands playing punk, metal, indie rock and more, as well as special theme nights.

But just last week they announced that their lease wasn’t renewed. “This news came as a surprise to us as the Foundry has been a staple in the neighborhood for many years.” They also shared that they’d had issues with basement flooding, a leaky roof and capacity issues with the city, putting in doubt the building’s future suitability for any business.

The good news is that Foundry has already found a new space: they’ll be moving to 4256 Pearl Road in the Old Brooklyn neighborhood, which is showing glimmers of becoming the next hot area. They share that it has a similar layout to the current Foundry with the addition of a large yard and garage to provide outdoor and covered seating.

The current Foundry will be open through January 29, 2025, with the new location expected to open the weekend of February 14, 2025. Be sure to check in with them to make sure they’re on schedule!
