Rock and roll guitarist Carl Baldassare’s Baldasarre Rock Orchestra has had a great year, with a swath of appearances at a variety of venues across northeast Ohio.

The band is wrapping up the year with a flashy all-star concert at the Cleveland Agora, with a wide-ranging variety of special guests. Yes, of course, they include Apostle Jones frontman Mikey Silas—that’s required by Cleveland Music Scene law. Cleveland rocker turned powerful pop singer Chayla Hope, Cleveland native global/jazz percussionist Jamey Haddad who has toured with Paul Simon for decades, Tears for Fears drummer Nick Virgilio and Cleveland’s Opus 216, a chamber ensemble founded to find unconventional; settings for classical music , will also perform. Youngstown-born Mark Boals will join Baldasarre’s band on lead vocals. He’s sung with countless metal bands including his own Ring of Fire; since launching his career in the early 80s, he’s done short stints with Dokken, Savoy Brown and a Michigan guitarist I’ve refused to name since 2003, and had the misfortune to perform and record with Yngwie J. Malmsteen, the crankiest guitarist this side of Dave Mustaine.

Those who’ve seen Carl’s shows know he’s always coming up with new angles and new ways to present music. On this night that will be an opening set of 70s classic rock (hopefully not including “Cat Scratch Fever”) and a second set called a “holiday spectacular,” which likely means some unique, over-the-top versions of classic holiday music.
