Former Cleveland Orchestra Executive Director Promotes Book About the Future of Orchestras

Cleveland resident Thomas W. Morris was the executive director of The Cleveland Orchestra from 1987 though 2004. He also served as executive director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and artistic director of the Ojai Music Festival. He created Boston Pops conductor Arthur Fiedler’s PBS series Evening at Pops and brought John Williams in to succeed him when Fiedler retired.

Morris has poured all this experience into his newly published book Always the Music: How a Lifelong Passion Framed a Future for Orchestras. The books shares his thoughts on how orchestras work, what makes a talented musician tick and how audiences respond to classical music. He also looks at the future of orchestras and how they can prepare themselves for a healthy, creative future with innovative ideas that engage a larger, more diverse audience/

Morris talking about his book with Plain Dealer art critic Steven Litt in an event hosted by Appletre Books in Cleveland Heights. Sophie La Gourmet will be serving coffee and croissants.
