NEO Sewer District’s Clean Water Festival Is Both Educational and Fun

Sat 9/21 @ 9AM-4PM

It’s easy to take for granted the constant stream of fresh clean water we can access from our faucets 24/7 (although after the 2014 algae bloom that left them without potable water for three days, the people on Toledo probably don’t). A good way to learn to appreciate how fortunate we are — and to share that message with kids — is to attend the Clean Water Fest sponsored by the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District (NEORSD) at its Southerly Wastewater Treatment Center.

It’s an event that’s both fun and educational — there’s enough to entertain the kids that they won’t be rolling their eyes. You can take a walking tour of the facility and check out booths with information on clean water and environmental issues, and learn how it’s all interconnected and the impact it has on our health. But there are also games and prizes, a kids’ zone with hand-on activities, a live lab science show, free popcorn, a balloon artist, a touch-a-truck opportunity and even the ultimate surefire kid pleaser — face painting.

Walking tours depart every 15 minutes from 9:30am-3:30pm. (You need to wear hard-sole closed-toe shoes.) There’s also two five-mile bicycle tours of the treatment center and surrounding trails — advance registration is required.

It’s free and open to all. Get more information here.
