We really don’t like writing these end-of-summer things and contemplating the season’s end, but alas August is moving along at a rapid clip. And this week brings the end of several summer concert series, including the popular Wade Oval Wednesday events.

For its final event, WOW is celebrating LGBTQ+ Pride, and as its headliner it’s bringing in a band whom you may have seen rocking the crowd at Pride in the CLE in June: Cleveland’s red-hot Apostle Jones, a blues and soul-inflected rock and roll group fronted by charismatic vocalist Mikey Silas. While they’re being promoted, oddly, as a “covers” band, that’s not very accurate. They mix distinctive arrangements of classic (in some cases, offbeat) tunes with their own material. But not playing a roster of familiar hits has never stopped them from getting a crowd up on its feet and having a joyful time.

Cleveland punk/garage/pop trio, two gals and a guy, open the evening, with Pride Zumba with Linda Hogan between the sets. As usual, the sidewalk around the oval will be filled with food vendors as well as booths sponsored by partner groups which this week will include the LGBT Center of Great Cleveland, the Case Western Reserve University LGBT Center, UCI Community Engagement, Equality Ohio and Stonewall Sports.

It’s free and family-friendly, no matter what state legislator Gary Click thinks.
