Geneva-on-the-Lake to See a Bug Infestation—Volkswagen Beetles, That Is

Sat 8/31 @ 9AM-4PM

The Volkswagen Beetle has a strange history. The German-made car was created by Adolph Hitler just prior to World War II to expand car ownership in Germany. Although its compact, domed shape was in stark contrast to the giant American land yachts that became popular in the 1950s with the extravagant fins that marked that era, the Beetle aka “The Bug” caught on as a response to that. Over the years, it became one of the most widely sold cars in the world. It was manufactured until 2003 without significant changes to its look, the longest lifespan of any model of car.

If you’re still a fan of this iconic car — especially if you own one — come to Geneva-on-the-Lake for its annual Bug Infestation car show, which attracts hundreds of Beetle owners. Enjoy the company and camaraderie of other German-made car owners, trade tips, visit the swap meet, enjoy some food and hang out in northeast Ohio’s famous little resort town. This year’s theme is “Hippies & Hot Cars” so expect to see some of the Volkswagen vans (“buses”) that became legendary homes on the move for many 60s/70s hippies. Dress in your 60s mod gear if you can still fit into it!

The event takes place in Geneva Township Park. All German-made cars are welcome. 5045 Lake Rd. Geneva-on-the-Lake, OH.
