Gear Up Velo

Masquerading as a family-friendly local bike shop in downtown Independence, Ohio resides one of the top biking resources in the region.

Owner Brian Rybak grew up riding flatland bikes in the 1980’s when every rider also had to be a mechanic, and he excelled to the point of being involved in professional biking events such as Chenga World and the X Games.

The family run business includes Kate Rybak, an Independence native, and they support good causes such as Cornerstone of Hope. Matthew Schieferstein is an experienced bicycle fitter (and musician!), who can also help with the shop’s focus on higher end equipment and supplies that other bike shops may not carry.

And due to their location less than a mile from the Cuyahoga Valley National Park Towpath Trail Lock 39 and a few miles from the West Creek Reservation and the Ohio Erie Canal, Gear Up Velo services a lot of bikers riding the trails, from road bikes to mountain bikes to e-bikes.

For the advanced rider, Brian and his team are certified as bike fitters, working with their clients on ergonomics, technique and equipment to address individual issues and optimize the riding experience. Contact them well in advance to set up a fitting.
