Some of you apparently like hearing music in gigantic stadiums. Here, take my ticket to that — I’m going to the Beachland. But for those of you for whom the recent Stones concert (no, they weren’t “as good as ever” — come ON) evoked nostalgia for the World Series of Rock concerts at the old Municipal Stadium, the Rock Hall Library and Archives on the Tri-C Metro campus has something for you.
They’re hosting a new exhibit to commemorate the 50th anniversary of these shows, which ran from 1974-1980. (Bob Seger, pictured here, played at the final one in 1980.) It includes more than 50 artifacts from the shows, including photos.
It will host an opening event on Wednesday June 28 from 3-7pm as part of Cleveland History Days. Jules and Frank Belkin whose company presented the concerts will be attending and Rock Hall Library and Archives staff members will be on hand to talk about its NEO Sound project to collect items relating to Northeast Ohio music history. Fran Belkin and photographers Anastasia Pantsios and Janet Macoska, who contributed to the exhibit, will be on hand selling their books. The show will have viewing. hours through August. The Library & Archives staff are also looking for submissions for their Home Movie Day, taking place at the Rock Hall’s Foster Theater November 2. Through September 15th it’s accepting submissions of your own rock & roll home movies, especially those filmed in Cleveland and footage of local artists. Get more information here.
