CMNH’s Think & Drink with the Extinct Celebrates 50th Anniversary of the Discovery of Lucy

Thu 6/20 @ 6PM

The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is celebrating a special anniversary this year. It was 50 years ago that a CMNH curator, Dr. Donald Johanson, made one of the museum’s signature finds. He unearthed a humanlike fossil in the Ethiopian desert. The skeleton, the oldest, most complete such skeleton at the time was named Lucy.

This month’s addition of the museum’s adult party, Think & Drink with the Extinct, celebrates that discovery with a throwback-to-the-70s theme at “Get Groovy With Lucy.” There’ll be ’70s themed cocktails, DJ disco music (!), and ’70s attire is welcome. There’s also a serious, educational side to these evenings. Guests can talk with museum scientists, get a close look at specimens from the museum’s paleontology collection, watch a demonstration of stone-age tools, and play Lucy-themed trivia. In addition, guests can visit the Perkins II Wildlife Center & Woods Garden and watch otters play, alone worth the price of admission.
