Trio Performs 30s-Style “Hot Jazz” for Folknet Concert in Kent

Sun 5/5 @ 7PM

Northeast Ohio acoustic music nonprofit Folknet will have another entry in its spring Mountain Rose Concert Series this weekend, when it presents Kent gypsy jazz trio the Triplets of Belleville.

While the group is relatively new, have formed a little more than a year ago, the members are seasoned musicians. Guitarist Brad Bolton is an expert in jazz and swing from the 1930s-60. Guitarist Topher Starzyk is known for playing both solo classical guitar and in swing bands. And vocalist Sally Kandel has performed with groups such as Rio Neon and Dirty Shirleys. Together they indulge their passion for the Parisian “gypsy jazz” of the 1930s, spearheaded by guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephan Grapelli, with a repertoire of period pieces by Reinhardt, George Gershwin and Fats Waller, as well as more modern pop tunes by artists such as the Beatles, performed in 30s “hot jazz” style.

The concert takes place at Standing Rock Cultural Arts’ North Water Street Gallery in Kent. Go here for more information.
