CPT’s DanceWorks Series Launches With a Collaborative Performance

Thu 4/18-Sat 4/20 @ 7:30PM

Cleveland Public Theatre’s four-weekend DanceWorks series is once again a blend of familiar, established ensembles and relative newcomers to the area dance scene, encompassing modern dance, contemporary ballet, Afro beat, Indian and hip-hop fusion.

It launches this week with a collaboration between Ajayi Dance, Elizabeth Pollert and Sarah Holmes Villaneuva Dance called Fenestella. It’s described as an evening of “introspection, experimentation, wonder and powerful kinesthetic expression,” that delves into “questions of identity, societal expectations and futuristic imagination.”

Weekend 2, April 25-27, will feature the veteran Ohio Contemporary Ballet (the former Verb Ballet) in a program of new works, followed on Weekend 3 (May 9-11) with Connections, a program by another established area ensemble Inlet Dance Theatre. The series concludes on May 16-18 with a double bill featuring Blakk Jakk Dance Collective and Shri Kalaa Mandir.
