Heights Arts’ Close encounters series allows classical music lovers to hear small ensembles of this area’s top musicians in various intimate settings. It’s curated by Cleveland Orchestra cellist Dane Johansen, who brings some of his colleagues in board for these programs.
That includes the upcoming one, which will take place at Dunham Tavern in Midtown. The string and wind ensemble, which includes violinist Katherine Bormann, violist Eliesha Nelson, double bassist Maximilian Dimoff, oboe player Frank Rosenwein, clarinetist Afendi Yusuk, bassoonist Barrick Stees and horn player Nathaniel Silberschlag, will perform Rebecca Clarke’s 1941 Prelude, Allegro and Pastorale for Clarinet and Viola; Franz Hasenöhrl 1954 “Till Eulenspiegel einmal anders!” which deconstructs Richard Strauss’ 1895 tone poem “Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks”; and Sergei Prokofiev’s 1924 Quintet in g minor, Op. 39.
