The exciting news arrived sooner than we were expecting! As we told you previously two new Amur tiger cubs were born at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo on November 6, 2023, the second litter for the zoo’s female Zoya and male Hector. The cubs are now out and about greeting visitors at the Rosebrough Tiger Passage. They tell us that mother tigers raise their cubs for two years so plan to make many return visits to watch them grow.
And of course, this means it’s time for the naming contest. The zoo has picked out three potential names for each cub and you can vote for your favorite for a donation of any amount through midnight February 12. The names with the largest donation amount will be the names for the cubs. For the female, you can choose from Mila, Karina or Anoushka; for the male, Ivan, Boris or Sergei. The names reflect the tigers’ range in eastern Russia.
Money raised will go to conservation efforts and fighting the illegal wildlife poaching. Go here to register your vote.
