Photographer Turns His Camera on Fellow Gen Z’ers

Fri 2/23 @ 5-9PM

Sat 2/24 @ noon-4PM

Teenage photographer Mosijah Roye, currently a student at the University of Akron, is a chip off the old block. His father is noted street photographer/storyteller Ruddy Roye who moved his family from New York to Cleveland in the early days of the pandemic. Roye the father has been active with the Cleveland Print Room and has his photos shown there, and now it’s his son’s turn.

Since the Cleveland Print Room is between locals, Mosijah Roye’s show, The Gen Z Project, will be going on view at Zygote Press, with an opening event Friday February 24 @ 5-9pm.

The show emerged from Mosijah’s 11th grade photography class at Cleveland Heights High School. It’s described as “a study of Generation Z’s mindset toward their future career endeavors as they moved toward graduation.” He interviewed more than 60 of his fellow students, asking them “How does what you aspire to do inspire or produce change in the world?” He then photographed 25 of them, asking them to wear clothes or bring props relating to their aspirations.

The day after the opening, on Saturday February 24 @ noon-4pm, Mosijah will be doing an artist talk and taking photos at Zygote Press. Gen Z’ers who’d like to be part of his ongoing project should show up with props or attire reflecting their goals. The show will be on view through Saturday March 2.
