Join a Parade at SNPJ Farm’s Slovenian Grape Festival

Sun 9/24 @ 2:45-7PM

The season isn’t quite over at Kirtland’s SNPJ Farm, where polka music and Slovenian food reign supreme.

This weekend it’s hosting the Slovenian Grape Festival, which celebrates — you guessed it — wine. The place will be decorated with grapevines and treats to grab when things get going at 2:45pm with the parade of Slovenian-costumed singers and accordion players, led by Tony Fortuna. That’s followed by four hours of polka and waltz music for dancing by Cleveland favorites, the Joey Tomsick Orchestra. There’ll be plenty of food available or purchase, including hearty smoked Slovenian sausages and homemade Krof donuts, to fuel the dancers.

If you want to join the parade (all are welcome!) wear your Slovenian outfit and bring your accordion. Joe Valencic from the Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame will provide song sheets and share the history of the tradition. Admission is free if you wear a Slovenian costume or bring your accordion for the parade; you need to get there by 2:15pm. Otherwise admission is $8 for four hours of music and free balina (bocce).
