Akron Art Museum Says Goodbye to Keith Haring Show with an ’80s Party

Fri 9/22 @ 6-9PM

If you haven’t seen the show Keith Haring: Against All Odds, at the Akron Art Museum, a rare chance to immerse yourself in iconic work of the street-inspired New York artist who shot to fame in the ’80s before dying of AIDS in 1990 at the age of 31, you’d better hurry. It’s only on view through September 24.

The museum is hosting a farewell party on Friday September 22, with an ’80s-style party. Dress like it was the ’80s again: neon, ripped sweatshirts, Madonna-style costume jewelry, shoulder pads, even the hair if you can still get it to do all those crazy, curly, puffed-out, stand-on-end things. There’s a “Best Dressed” prize for the person in the most spectacular attire.

There’ll be photo ops with Keith Haring decals and a Keith Haring-inspired mural crafted by Matt Miller, as well as AAM’s new photo booth. If you get tired of looking at yourself, make a Haring-inspired button to take home.

A DJ will be playing danceable ’80s music (but wasn’t most of it?)  And there’ll be beer, wine and pizza available for purchase in the lobby. Don’t be having too much fun to check out the exhibit!

Make your reservation here.
