Sat 8/5 @ 8PM
Each month, the Bainbridge Swing Dance, taking place at the Family Life Center (16349 Chillicothe Road, Chagrin Falls), gives people of all ages and dance skill levels the chance to socialize and dance to live music by some of the region’s most exciting ensembles who play high-energy, feet-moving music in a variety of danceable and listenable genres.
This month, local dancers will be stepping out to a band that’s very familiar to area music fans: Blue Lunch. For more than 36 years, the horn-driven, eight-piece jump blues/soul/jazz/early rock & roll band has been making the rounds of area venues of all types. It’s got eight albums under its collective belt. Some of its members are area veterans who’ve been with the band a long time; others, such as vocalist Maya Nicholson and recent Florida transplant guitarist/vocalist Billy Seward, are new. But they all contribute to the band’s fierce sound.
The dances are all-ages events, family-friendly and welcoming to couples and singles, experienced dancers and beginners alike. Doors open at 7:30; at 8pm there’s a dance class, so if you’ve never done this before, you can learn the steps — friendly regulars are eager to help you out. Music starts at 9 and goes to 11pm. As for coming alone, don’t worry: it’s part of the program to change partners constantly so you’ll get to dance with everyone and maybe make some new friends.
The dances take place on the first Saturday of each month. Admission is $15, $10 per child or $40 per family. No registration is required. Get more information here.
