Kent Brewery Talk Looks at How History of May 4 1970 KSU Shootings Was Preserved

Tue 4/18 @ 7PM

The May 4, 1970 shootings at Kent State University, when the National Guard, confronting a group of students protesting the war in Vietnam, killed four young students, looms over the university’s history. The site of those killings is now at National Historic Landmark, designated by Congress as a place with significance for U.S. heritage.

This month’s Tap Talk at Kent’s North Water Brewing will focus on that event, tying in with its upcoming anniversary, in a program about “The Story Behind the Story.” The speakers, KSU professor emeritus and witness to the shootings Laura Davis, and KSU professor emeritus and antiwar activist Mark Seeman, are the main researchers and writer of the successful nomination. They’ll talk about the process behind putting together their case and presenting it to Congress.

Enjoy some local craft beer and/or ale and meet a couple of people with a passion for preserving and educating about this critical piece of local history. It’s free and open to all.
