Cleveland graphic/comics artist Gary Dumm established his credentials during his thirty-year collaboration with comic storyteller Harvey Pekar in his American Splendor series: Harvey provided the words, Gary the pictures. He also illustrated Pekar’s 2008 book Students for a Democratic Society: A Graphic History and, more recently, Scott McGregor’s 2020 book Fire on the Water, about a Lake Erie tunnel disaster. He and artist wife Laura, his colorist, have had many shows in recent years of their original work, much of it with political and environmental themes. And they created a mural in 2013 called “Our Love Letter to Cleveland,” which is at Cleveland State’s Schwarz Library. The long-married couple are also major cat lovers.
Dumm will be showing his work at the Loganberry Books Annex Gallery in “Black and White and Read All Over.” The show opens with a free, public reception on Thursday Aril 6 and will be on view through April 30.
