BlueWater Orchestra Presents an Evening of Latin & Spanish Music

Sat 3/4 @ 7:30PM

For its next concert, dubbed “Viva Latina,” Cleveland’s BlueWater Chamber Orchestra offers what it describes as a “passionate Latin & Spanish perspective with a tango vibe.”

The group’s artistic director Daniel Meyer leads a program that includes Symphony in D, written by Spanish prodigy Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga in 1825 when he was just 19 (he died the following year); Aaron Copland’s 1971 Three Latin American Sketches; and Argentinian tango composer Astor Piazzolla’s Aconcagua — Concerto for Bandoneon.

Accordionist Hanzhi Wang joins the ensemble for the Piazzolla piece, although accordion and bandoneon are more cousins than siblings. She’s a rapidly rising star in a very exclusive field, classical accordion — especially unusual for a Chinese native who earned her first degree in Beijing before moving to Denmark where she’s currently based.

The concert takes pace at the Church of the Covenant in University Circle. Tickets are pay-what-you-wish. Get them here.
