Artist Gina Washington Looks at Family Identity in Parma Artspace Show

Fri 9/23 @ 6-10PM

Noted local artist Gina Washington is a Cleveland native with an MFA in photography from Ohio University, which is noted for its photography program. She’s an artist with an affinity for portraiture, as well as an educator, and she’s expanded her practice into other media including music and poetry.

Now PramaArtspace and Gallery in Parma will be hosting her exhibition Monday’s Child, described as “an archeological dig into family identity, identity expectations, and the dualistic nature of Black Identity in America.” It features photo collages that include hand weaving and embedded augmented reality elements to illustrate the poem “Monday’s Child.” “Each person represents their born day,” says the artist statement. “The hand building/ weaving of each picture connects to the physical process of raising children, and the objects will represent the people no longer present.”

The show opens with a reception on Friday September 23 @ 6-10pm and will be on view through October 16.
