Sat 8/6 @ 3PM
The second and final Lighthouse Concert of summer 2022 in Fairport Harbor honors a figure in rock music whose legacy continues to look large 27 years after his death in 1995: Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia. Although only 53 when he died, he and his band created the entire jam band movement which has spawned hundreds, if not thousands, of still active bands with millions of fans.
Some of those bands will be performing at the Lighthouse Concert, dubbed “A Jerry Garcia Birthday Celebration.” (It actually falls between his August 1 birthday and his August 9 death.) Papa Bear gets things rolling at 3pm, followed by the Rustbelt Ragtops at 3:15, Columbus’ Sunshine Daydream at 4pm, northeast Ohio’s Dupree’s Dead Band at 7pm and finally the Stolen Facs from Nashville at 8pm. Papa Bear will also play between sets.
In addition, there’ll be a fleet of food trucks offering everything from vegan foot to burgers to pastas to smoothies, and drinks, both alcoholic and non, to wash down the food. Vendots of various types will be set up, and there are also a lot of shops and eateries in Fairport Harbor within easy walking distance of the Lakefront Park where the concert takes place.
The concert goes on rain or shine. And it’s free!
