VIDEO: Activist Bikes Across US to Support Democracy in Hong Kong

Alex Lee is a Chinese student who spoke out during the protests in Hong Kong as China imposed anti-democratic measures, suppressed free speech, and arrested dissidents.

Now Alex is biking through Cleveland on his way from Los Angeles to Boston to raise awareness and continue speaking out. CoolCleveland caught up with him on Zoom and he described for us the harrowing conditions in Hong Kong, the rigors of his cross-country bike ride and his near-death experience in North Dakota when he was run over by a drunk driver, severing his aorta and losing his spleen and a tooth. Watch the video here.

Follow Alex’s ride as he continues through Ohio to Pennsylvania, Washington, DC, and up the coast to Boston over the coming weeks.

After meeting Alex on warmshowers, I will be honored to give him a days long tour of our great little city…compared to Hong Kong.
