Cuarteto Casals was forced to cancel its scheduled concerts for the Cleveland Chamber Music Society on Tuesday February 22 and Wednesday February 23. But luckily, the group snagged world-class pianist Richard Goode to perform a concert at Disciples Christian Church this week.
Goode has come a long way since he was born in the Bronx 78 years ago. He quickly made his mark, studying at some of the regions top schools with teachers such as Rudolf Serkin. He’s become celebrated for his performances of music by two of the top concert hall perennials Beethoven and Mozart, and for 15 years in the early 2000, he co-directed the Marlboro Music School and Festival with a beloved Severance Hall favorite Mitsuko Uchida.
While Goode’s next program here won’t feature any Mozart, he will play Beethoven’s Sonata No 28 in A Major, along with Bela Bartók’s Hungarian Peasant Songs, Franz Schubert’s Sonata in A Minor, and Robert Schumann’s Papillons.
