Join a Discussion of 1955 Danny Kaye Farce “The Court Jester”

Thu 2/3 @ 7PM

It’s time once again for “Movies at Home” with The Musical Theater Project, hosted by its artistic director and Cleveland’s biggest musicals enthusiast Bill Rudman.

This time, he’ll be taking a look at the 1955 Danny Kaye film The Court Jester, in which Kaye portrays a carnival performer in Medieval England who impersonates a court jester. It’s filled with slapstick and puns, although not that much music: only three songs, all penned by Kaye’s wife, Sylvia Fine. But considering the convoluted plot, who’s got time to sing? The cast also includes iconic entertainers Glynis Johns, Basil Rathbone and Angela Lansbury.

As usual, Rudman posts a video intro, talking about things to look for when you watch the film. Then go online to rent or buy the movie at Roku, YouTube, Amazon Prime, Google Play, Vudu, Apple TV or Pluto TV. Finally join Rudman and Daniel Hahn on Zoom Thursday February 3 for a post-film discussion. Here’s the link; no pre-registration is needed.
