Anne E. DeChant Performs for Welcoming Christmas Vespers in Avon Lake

Fri 12/24 @ 11PM

Late-night Christmas Eve vesper services are a tradition in many churches, which greet the birth of Jesus with music and reflection, rather than harried shopping and desperate decorating.

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Anne E. DeChant, an Avon Lake native now living in Nashville who acquiring a local following starting in the early 90s as part of Odd Girl Out, returns home regularly to perform, including at Christmas, when she’s back home at the Avon United Church of Christ for Christmas vespers. She and the church’s director of music Scott Ewing will provide music for the service, which includes a Christmas message and communion.

And because it’s the United Church of Christ, all are welcomed with open arms. “We are made up of singles, couples, families; we welcome persons of any age, color, ability, or sexual orientation,” they say. “We come from dozens of different religious backgrounds, and we are politically and culturally diverse.” (DeChant herself is openly lesbian). Very much in the spirit of Jesus himself.
